Position Statement
1. On Gender & Sex.
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person, in His image, either male or female, as it pleases Him (Gen. 1:26-27, Westminster Confession of Faith [WCF] 4.2). We believe that to reject the biological sex determined by God and to identify as the opposite sex is to reject His specific purpose, to pervert His created order, and to disregard His providential wisdom.
2. On Marriage.
We believe the term “marriage” has only one meaning: God’s uniting together of one man and one woman in an exclusive, life-long, covenant relationship, as defined in Scripture (Gen. 2:18-25) and our confessional standards (WCF 24.1), which union He ordained uniquely to reflect the relationship Christ has with His Church (Eph. 5:22-33). We believe that God intends sexual intimacy only within the confines of marriage and has commanded that there be no sexual activity outside of it (1 Cor. 6:18-20; 7:2-5; Heb. 13:4; WCF 24.2).
3. On Sexual Immorality.
We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, or use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God (Matt. 15:18-20; 1 Cor. 6:9-10; WLC 139).
4. On Redemption and Restoration.
We believe that God offers to all who repent of their sins and exercise saving faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, forgiveness of their sins, restoration, adoption, redemption, sanctification, and after their death, glorification (Acts 3:19-21; Rom. 10:9-10; 1 Cor. 6:9-11; WCF 7.3; 11.1-2; 14.2).
5. On Loving Our Neighbor.
We believe that we are to show every person love, kindness, compassion, and respect as God’s image bearers (Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31-36; James 3:9; WSC 42). To hate and harass any individual is sinful and is also a violation of the doctrines of this church.
6. On Employment at Calaveras Presbyterian Church.
We believe that for Calaveras Presbyterian Church to be a faithful local expression of the body of Christ and to provide a biblical role model to the church’s members and the community, all persons employed by the church in any capacity, or who serve as volunteers, must agree to, and abide by, this Statement
